The revival of HARD Summer was taken to the next level with upgraded features and a LIT line-up!
Being my 7th HARD Summer it is interesting to see how much this festival has changed over the years. This year, It was brought back to the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana to fit a larger capacity and to facilitate more room to walk around, sit and enjoy the festival grounds.
VIP had a swimming pool which was fun to dip your feet in or even cannonball into if you came prepared. One of my favorite new structures was “Shady Lane” which was a shaded tunnel with misters to keep you cool while walking from stage to stage. HARD also incorporated multiple shaded structures with grass for people to sit under in-between sets. The heat at HARD Summer is around 90 degrees every year and I felt that Insomniac Ground Control did a great job at helping their attendees feel comfortable and cool by passing out waters and ensuring all of the festival goers were having fun and feeling great.
Since this festival combines both an EDM and Hip-Hop crowd, the festival fashion reached a broad scale. From pasties and platforms to Adidas and streetwear, attendees dressed in their own personal styles and crushed it. This year, HARD lifted its ban on kandi so we could finally accessorize in peace.
This year, we had an exciting opportunity to team up with Insomniac on “HARD” Hydration packs which were sold in their merch booth! Along with these custom hydration packs, we saw hundreds of people rocking our Holla-Graphic hydration packs and staying hydrated all weekend long. With multiple water refill stations, there were no issues waiting in line to refill our packs so it was a win-win!
Music of many genres graced a total of 6 stages! Hard does an amazing job at incorporating multiple genres into their festival that range from Hip Hop and Urban to EDM. This attracted the masses and totaled attendance over both days was over 150,000 people. Our favorite acts of the weekend included Virtual Self, Fisher, Will Clarke, Troyboi, Marshmello and Ghastly.
Hard Summer created Back2Back sets that we definitely don't see every day. Some of these included Yellow Mustard (Yellow Claw B2B DJ Mustard), Diplo B2B Dillon Francis, Borgore B2B Getter and my personal favorite Zeds Dead B2B Jauz. A lot of these are exclusive sets that either happened for the first time, or have no plans on continuing forward! They even created limited edition merchandise for some of them which was awesome!
This event attracted the masses and Insomniac was well-prepared! They did a great job at facilitating and taking care of every single person in attendance. With hot temperatures and large crowds, there were enough places to rehydrated and relax in between sets. Stage production was on point which heightened our experience of the incredible acts! This truly was the revival HARD Summer needed and was one of their most successful shows to date! We're eager to see what is in store for HARD Summer 2019!
